Fifth Grade Winter Poems

What I Love about Winter
compiled by Miss Hinds' class

Magical Christmas,
all green and red.
Skiing and skating,
Speedy blue sled.
Basketballs dribbling
on big college courts...
Snow forts!

Pancakes and waffles,
the best you can make.
Icicles, hot tubs,
Sparkling snowflakes.
Wishing and hoping
the phone call will say...
Snow day!

Wild Winter Classic,
overtime goal.
Heritage Classic,
Winter Olympics,
best Super Bowl.
Carrot-nosed snowman,
eyes made of coal.
Hot cocoa with
marshmallows
served in a mug...
and Uggs!

What I Hate about Winter
compiled by Mrs. Campbell's class

shoveling shoveling
more shoveling
icicles
ice on the car
slippery sheet of ice
falling off snowboard
falling off sled
falling on ice
not nice
snow in my boots
dirty snow muddy snow
yellow snow
oh no
power outage
no light
broken heater
at night
cold cocoa
feeling cold
frostbite
Utah's altitude
indoor attitude
indoor recess
cabin fever, I guess
never ending
never ending
never ending!

What I Love about Winter
compiled by Mrs. Worden's class

skating skiing
sliding sledding
sipping cocoa warm indoors

snow days snow boards
snow forts snow men
tossing snowballs in the air

more Christmas for sharing
more winter vacation
more time for sleeping
more hockey for playing
more time for
making angels in the snow
my dog
running through the snow
my dog
stealing my mittens
and I
am catching snowflakes on my tongue

What I Hate about Winter
compiled by Mr. Cronin's class

Trapped inside the house all day,
cold and sick, inside I stay.

No grass showing
No flowers growing
No leaves on trees
No baseball
No heat
No warm weather
Forever and ever.

Soggy clothing
Slush on sidewalk
Slipping on ice
Icy hills, Icy roads
Skidding cars.

Snowman melting
Snowball pelting.

Snow in my boots
Lose my boots and lose my gloves,
These are things I do not love.

Cold wind blowing
Cold snowball throwing
Cold snowball in
My face: Ouch!
Ouch!  Ouch!
Cold cold weather
Forever and ever.

Dry skin, wind burn
Rashes from my ice skates
Crashes on my sled.

Burn my mouth on hot cocoa,
Shovel snow, no place to go.
