Lafayette Originals

 Poem about Teachers

Mrs. Bakur is a master at math when Miss Bane makes us all laugh
Mrs. Cifrodella teaches us how to read
and we go to Mr. Fleming in a time of need
Mrs. Kraemer teaches us to draw
when Mr. Newcomer teaches us to sing La La La
Mr. Shellenhamer teaches us how to kick a ball
when Mrs. Raffo teaches us no to smoke at all
Mrs. Guinan teaches us A.C.E.
and Senora Leonardis teaches us a language from a different place
Mrs. Keating teaches us L.A.
and at Lafayette you'll always have a wonderful day
Teachers, teachers, they're so great we really have to appreciate... Lafayette!

Happy Birthday by Gillian F.

Birthday Candy

I went to buy you some candy for your birthday.
It sure took a lot for me to pay.
I took a bite to make sure it tasted right,
and now I can't stop eating this wonderful delight.

We'll be going back to the candy story tonight.

Meat Lovers
I wake up from my bed, confused and surprised,
I look out the window, and I see steaks and chicken thighs.
I walk out the door and feel steak sauce in my hair,
I look around and I see ham, steak, and ribs everywhere.
Bacon bits on the trees, giving off grease on the leaves,
Hamburgers on the grass, next to fish and bass.
People grilling juicy hot dogs, while people try to catch hogs.
People stare at meat and hover,
So I figure they must be meat lovers.

Spring

Spring has come
Winter is done
The flowers are are bright
And what a sight
Playing around
With no frown
Spring Spring
My favorite season.

-- Anni B. and Alex D. in Mrs. Adams' 5th grade class

Spareribs

So sweet and juicy,
so tender and well-cooked.
Oh how I wish
that one day
a giant sparerib would emerge
from the shadows
with all its babies
and allow me to eat it.
Oh well,
I can only dream.

Sick

I'm sick,
I'm distressed.
I'm sick.
I'm a mess.
I'm coughing,
I'm wheezing,
I just can't stop sneezing.
I'm really quite hazy,
I'm feeling quite lazy.
So please call a doctor,
I think I got hotter,
And I'm missing this great Saturday!

Pie

I believe I can fly
up to the sky.
Oh giant pie
in the sky,
why are we so
far apart?

St. Patrick's Day

There once was a leprechaun who
lived on a street of green.
The leprechaun was very, very mean.
He was very old
and he stole lots of gold.
He was also really, really lean.

Winter Left Us
(can be sung to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)

Winter left us,
Can't you see?
Winter left us,
Let us be.
Snowball fights are a thing of the past.
There are some things
that can not last.
Spring will be here,
Yes, it's true.
Winter has left
Me and You.

If I Were Not Sick

"If I were not sick,
I would just play,
Read to you all day,
I am sorry I could not try,"
I said to my little sister as a lie.
"I am just trying to protect you,
Those germs will infest you.
I know, don't cry.
Fine. I will play."
She stopped right away.
So sadly I had to play and read to her all day.

-- Izzy R., Miss Kelly's 4th grade class

Pickles

So juicy so sweet,
I can just eat and eat,
The amazing sensation,
Which is the pickle I am craving,
The taste cannot be beat!

-- Izzy R., Miss Kelly's 4th grade class

If

If people could fly, what would we do,
Would we fly up to the clouds and find something new?
If people had gills, what would we do,
Would we find Atlantis, too?
The questions I ask myself may have no answer to...
If...
If...
If....

-- Izzy R., Miss Kelly's 4th grade class

There once was a little, little book
who said go to the li, library
then ch, check out the book
and you've got yourself a book
say what, say what!

-- Lauren H.

There once was a little, little Lep who
wished on a shooting, shooting star.
His wish came when he wished on
that shooting, shooting star-- a book
came down to his little, little hands.

Scotland

Scotland is amazing and
Has a blazing sight every night but
That is not all
What about Glasgow with
All those lassos and
We are not talking about
Moscow
We are talking about
Glasgow
And this is why
You should love Scotland

--Kyle B.

Parents
by Mackenzie C.

In their arms
I feel safe.

In their eyes
I feel seen.

In their heart
I feel loved.

Both different
But come together to make one

Me.

Books
by Sophie D.

When you open a book,
adventure, enthusiasm, joy
peek
slowly
out from the pages.
Characters
Leap!
out from
the stiff
hardcover
book.
Your mind
floats away
to places
no one could
ever
imagine before.
All of you fears,
worries,
anger,
seem like
they are gone
forever.
You are
hooked,
intrigued.
Rainbows,
Heroes,
Knights in Shining Armor.
Princesses,
Queens and Kings.
You seem like you are a part
of the story,
fighting a battle,
at the royal ball,
saving someone's
LIFE!
In a world full of happiness
nothing could ever be better.
But when you close
the fascinating book,
the excitement floats
Away.
Just how your mind floated

Away
when you opened it.

Worth the Wait
by Abigal L.

I was sitting in my cage,
but nobody wanted me.
Everyone wanted a kitten or puppy,
but nobody wanted me.
Sometimes people gave me a gaze,
but nobody wanted me.
I like to dream of the perfect match,
but nobody wanted me.
I knew someday my dream would come true,
but nobody wanted me.
Then I saw her standing there.
Finally
Somebody wanted me.
